Animal Defenders of Westchester (ADOW) is pleased to endorse Christine Sculti for Westchester County Executive. We worked with Ms. Sculti when she was Chief Advisor to the County Executive for the previous administration. She was enormously supportive and kind, and we got 99% of what we wanted, including:
- Increasing the county fund for Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR).
- Banning hunting at Marshlands Conservancy – despite the requests of city and Mamaroneck village government officials.
- As the Liaison to the Parks Dept., Sculti helped stop a local golf course from using the NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation to kill their resident geese.
Ms. Sculti supports humane treatment of animals and supported the ban on circuses here, which began with a ban on elephant acts and rides. The administration maintained a welcome open-door policy for animal advocates.
Ms. Sculti recently issued a public statement opposing the NYSDEC’s killing of Peanut the rescued squirrel and his raccoon friend Fred, an event that caused widespread outrage and is currently being investigated.
Her opponent, Ken Jenkins, has not responded to repeated polite inquiries regarding his position on humane treatment of animals.
